1907 April 5 The Sherman Methodists are going to erect a church, and have incorporated under the name of the First Methodist Church of Sherman. The trustees are Mrs. Walter Simons, M.L. Zeliff and W.S. Irish.
1907 August 1 At a meeting of the official board of the Congregational Church, Rev. S.H. Smith was engaged as pastor of the churches at Garretson and Sherman for a year.
1907 July 18 Robert Evans and Orb Smith, who are visiting at the John Stromme’s, went over to Sherman this week and bought the meat market there.
1917 May 10 Claud W. Tooker, the popular Great Northern agent at Sherman, was recently married to Eva Miller of Hull, Iowa.
1917 July 18 The Sherman Farmers Elevator of Sherman, has purchased the Monarch Elevator there to replace the one that burned recently.
1927 April 7 Among the roads to be graveled this summer is the one from Sherman to Baltic and the State Highway from Garretson to the state line west of Jasper.
1927 April 28 The town of Sherman was the scene of another bad elevator fire Tuesday morning when the Cargill Elevator was entirely destroyed. Nothing was saved, and it was only by hard work that the coal sheds just east of the burning structure were saved.
1927 May 12 The first annual field and track meet, sponsored by the Henry G. Fix Post of the American Legion, will be held in Sherman tomorrow, with the Sherman, Garretson and Valley Springs Highs Schools competing, also the grade schools of the three towns and the rural schools in the vicinity.
1957 April 25 Margie Sorenson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otto I. Sorenson of Sherman, was entertained at a banquet Tuesday night, April 16, as she became a member of the Theta Sigma Tau Society of Augustana College.
1957 July 18 Rev. C.M. Svaren, who had been pastor of First Lutheran Church in Sherman, and the St. Paul and Highland Lutheran Churches, has accepted a call to the Renner parish, and preached his farewell sermon in the local Sherman parish. He and his family will be greatly missed.
1977 July 28 Extensive hail damage hit the vicinity of Sherman last Saturday night, covering an area from the east end of Sherman to Highway 11. Farmers that were hit hardest report 80 to 90 percent damage. The area was estimated to be about two miles north and south and about three miles east and west. Amounts of rain varied from 2 1/2 to 4 inches or more.
1987 April 30 Norm and Elaine Benson of Sherman, were cited as Rock County’s "Outstanding Farm Family" at a University of Minnesota banquet ceremony held March 19, in St. Paul. The award recognized the family’s contributions to production agriculture and their leadership in agriculture and civic organizations.
1987 August 13 The plans for Sherman Centennial in 1988 are well underway as 15 people met Aug. 4 to finalize some of the planned activities. Dates for the celebration are set for July 16 and 17, 1988.
